Which of the words given in the brief document have you selected, and why? |
I have chosen the word ‘Division’ because there is lots of inspiration around me for different ways things have been categorised in the world, therefore dividing them. I have also picked it because I can bring up important issues such as political matters and mental health (e.g. OCD). I will interpret the word as separation and organisation. |
What do you want to point your camera at? |
I want to point my camera at different aspects of life that demonstrate how people separate, categorise and organise things. I am interested in showing rooms where things are kept separate, food on a plate and current issues in today’s society such as the separation of male and female bathrooms. |
Why are you interested in this subject? |
I am interested in this subject because I am quite an organised person and I like things to be tidy. But I am also interested in how division can be taken too far and how it has the potential to affect people’s mental health and how they lead their lives. |
What do you hope an audience will take from your images? |
I hope the audience takes away the idea that the theme of division is all around us. I want them to understand that whilst sometimes division can be harmless and even important, it can become an issue. I also want to raise awareness of mental illness and current political issues that link to the word ‘Division’. |
What areas of research are you considering to help deepen your understanding of the subject you have chosen? |
I will research photographers who take photos of Still Life and food in particular. |
What practitioner(s) or visual resources would you consider to have influenced you? This does not have to be photographic. |
Food photographers such as Benoit Levac and Orkun Orcan but also I have found inspiration through searching for food photography on Google Images that interest me. Jim Golden who produces photos that relate to hoarding but his compositions are laid out in an organised, aesthetically pleasing way. He also has a food photography section on his blog which has inspired me. |
What support or equipment might you need to achieve your goals? |
I will be using either the Canon 600D or the Canon 700D with an 18-55mm lens. I may also use a tripod in order for my photos to be sharp and fit with the idea of organisation and being neat. |
